The Sri Lankan School Syllabus Text Books – Sinhala, Tamil and English Medium for All Grades are essential learning resources for students following the national school curriculum. School textbooks provide the basic content, activities, examples, exercises, and learning outcomes that students are expected to study during the academic year. The Educational Publications Department provides official textbook resources in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, while the Ministry of Education’s e-Thaksalawa platform provides curriculum-aligned textbooks and other learning resources from Grade 1 to Grade 13.
Having access to textbooks for all grades and all three mediums is useful for students, parents, teachers, and anyone supporting school education. Why Students Should Keep Their Textbooks
A school textbook should not be used only when an examination is approaching. Students can use it before a lesson to become familiar with the topic, during the lesson to follow the teacher’s explanation, and after the lesson to revise what they have learned. Reading the relevant lesson every day can make learning more consistent and reduce the pressure of studying a large amount of material immediately before examinations.
A useful habit is to spend around 20–30 minutes reviewing lessons taught during the day. Students can read the important sections, review definitions, study diagrams, complete textbook activities, and attempt exercises. The amount of time can be adjusted according to the student’s grade, workload, and school schedule.
How Many Subjects Are in the Sri Lankan Syllabus?
It is important to understand that there is no single fixed number of subjects that applies to every grade, every student, and all three mediums. The curriculum changes according to the grade, educational stage, language medium, religion, subject choices, and curriculum reforms. For example, students have different subject combinations in primary education, junior secondary education, G.C.E. Ordinary Level, and G.C.E. Advanced Level.
Sri Lanka’s school system covers Grades 1–13, and e-Thaksalawa organizes curriculum resources across these grades in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.
